SG Fleet Australia is pleased to announce that we are officially
Climate Active certified as a carbon neutral organisation.
Climate Active is Australia’s initiative for climate action, uniting people, businesses and government to amplify our positive impact. The certification helps the community take action by making it easier to identify and choose brands that are making a real difference.
Certification is awarded to businesses that have achieved a state of net-zero emissions, and it is the most rigorous and credible certification available.
We have undertaken a significant investigation covering all aspects of our business operations to reveal our carbon footprint.
This process helped identify some easy improvements. To save paper, we switched to double-sided printing and implemented Docusign. We also introduced LED lights across many offices, and we updated our travel policy to cut back on flights and use video conferencing where possible.
During the 2021 financial year, SG Fleet Australia reduced its CO₂ emissions by 40%. For the emissions we could not reduce, we purchased offset credits.
Offset credits are invested in projects that reduce or remove emissions from the atmosphere, resulting in a net-zero or ‘neutral’ position. To this end, we selected the Vishnuprayag Hydro-electric Project Stapled with Greenfleet Biodiversity Offsets and the Anhui Guzhen Biomass Generation Project stapled with Natural Capital Units, as well as the Merepah Fire Project Cape York.
Our approach to long-term value creation for all of our stakeholders is driven by the principle that industry-leading environmental, social and governance behaviours should be integrated into daily business practices. Achieving carbon neutrality is an important part of the environmental component of this approach.
In addition to the beneficial impact of carbon neutrality for the wider community, we believe it also achieves several objectives in operational efficiency, improved stakeholder relations and greater staff engagement.
We believe that every organisation should consider and manage its environmental impacts and, if possible, achieve carbon neutrality. Obtaining the relevant certification is a visible and powerful signal to encourage other organisations to embark on the same path. We aim to lead by example and inspire action across our network of customers, suppliers, and other partners.
